WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT POMONA-PITZER INVITATIONAL

CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- The Colgate women's track and field team is spending the weekend competing in California starting at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Friday.  12 members of the team competed in the days events.

Freshman Julie Stephenson (Hyannis, Mass.), back from a winter injury, had several strong finishes.  Stephenson set a new freshman and Colgate record with her 36' 5 3/4" triple jump as well as jumping 16' 1" in the long jump competition.  Stephenson also ran her collegiate personal best in the 100 hurdles with a 15.6.

Freshman Nolina Quince (Syracuse, N.Y.) had a strong day, running her own personal best in the 100 hurdles as well as a setting a new freshman record in 15.46. She finished behind Stephneson in the triple jump with a 35' 3" and the long jump with a 14' 11 1/2".

In the 800 meter run, Maura McCusker (Stoneham, Mass.) finished with a time of 2:10.31 while Jenny McCarthy (Rutland, Mass.) took 2:15.15.  Danielle Gabay (Mississaugua, Ont.) made a personal best in the 800 in 2:18.32.

The 4x100 team of Yaruby Brenes (Lincoln Park, N.J.), Leann Teager (Holliston, Mass.), Julie Stephenson and Andrea Graham (Mississaugua, Ont.) ran a 49.56, good enough for second on Colgate's all-time leader board. 

Brenes and Teager also competed in the 200 meter dash.  Brenes finished in 25.57 while Teager ran a personal best of 26.26.   Teager ran another personal best in the 400 at 58.87 and Brenes finished with a 12.63 in the 100.

The women's team will continue competition Saturday at the Long Beach State Invitational and the Mount Sac Relays.
