RAIDERS COMPETE AT COASTAL CAROLINA
INVITATIONAL March 23, 2002 CONWAY, S.C. - Colgate University distance specialist Maura McCusker (Stoneham, Mass.) lead the women's track and field team in competition at the Coastal Carolina Invitational Saturday with her first place finish in the 1500 meter. McCusker finished with a time of 4:36.75 to win the race. Jenny McCarthy (Rutland, Mass.) and Danielle Gabay (Misissaugua, Ont.) also competed in the 1500 finishing fifth and seventh respectively. McCarthy had a final time of 4:44.63 while Gabay clocked a time of 4:54. In the 5000 meter, Amy Demarco (Shoreham, N.Y.) finished second with a time of 18:50.65. She was followed by Jessica Dunton (Lebanon Springs, N.Y.), who finished third at 18:50.94. Yaruby Brenes (Lincoln Park, N.J.) took third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.29 with teammate Leann Teager (Holliston, Mass.) finishing sixth at 1:00.62. Freshman Beth Stephenson (Hyannis, Mass.) took third in the long jump, eighth in the 100 meter dash, while her sister Julie took 12th and also placed 10th in the 100 hurdles. The women's track team returns to action Friday, April 5-Saturday April 6 at the Duke Invitational.
