Colgate Competes at Penn State and Bucknell Jan. 27, 2002 Over the weekend, the Colgate Raiders Women's Track team sent athletes to compete at the Penn State National Open, while others went to the Bucknell Bison Open. The Penn State Open was highlighted for the Raiders by the outstanding performance from Junior Maura McCusker who ran a NCAA Provisional mark of 2:08.90, which was good enough to finish fifth overall out of the field of 35 competitors. Also running in the middle distances for Colgate was senior Jenny McCarthy. McCarthy ran a time of 2:58.91 in the 1,000m run, finishing 12th overall. The Raider Mile Relay team composed of first-year Beth Stephenson, Maura McCusker, Senior Yaruby Brenes, and Sophomore Andria Graham ran a time of 4:01.65, finishing 18th overall. In the sprints, Yaruby Brenes placed 17th in a time of 7.91 in the 60m dash, while also finishing 10th in the 200m dash in a time of 25.39. Lastly, Andria Graham ran in the 500m dash, running a time of 1:19.02, and finishing in 14th place. At Bucknell, the Raiders entered first-year Kate Wood in the 55m Hurdles. In her heat she finished 4th after a time of 9.50. In the 3,000m run, Colgate entered two competitors. First-year Amy DeMarco won her heat in a time of 10:29.96, while first-year Laura Kenny placed 7th in her respective heat with a time of 12:19.57. Junior Leeann Teager ran the 200m dash, finishing 4th in her heat with the time of 27.41. First-year Katy Romano came in 11th in the high jump after clearing the height of 4' 11". Lastly in the Pentathlon, first-year Nolana Quince finished 5th with 2,916 points. The Raiders next compete at the Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden on February 1st. |
