Gabay and Hildebrand give gutsy performances at ECAC Championships FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BOSTON, M.A. – Two Colgate women advanced to the ECAC Championships, held on Saturday and Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Senior co-captain Danielle Gabay (Mississaugua, Ontario) competed in the 1000 on Saturday, and although she ran a competitive race, failed to advance to the final. Gabay came through the 800 meter mark in 2:20, but couldn't muster the effort that earned her the 2:55 qualifying time just 3 weeks before, and finished in 2:58 for 12th overall. Although disappointed, Gabay looks forward to her final outdoor season, where she will likely be top-ranked in the Patriot League in the 800. Freshman Sarah Hildebrand (Fairport, N.Y.) competed gamely in her first appearance at a collegiate championship meet, as she clocked 10:21 in the 3000 meters. Although suffering from an upper respiratory infection, Hildebrand managed a 5:20 clocking at the mile mark, hanging tough in the field, but then succumbed to fatigue in the latter part of the race. As one of only two freshman in the race, Hildebrand has a bright future ahead, and many more opportunities to experience success at this level. Both women join the rest of the team now in preparing for the outdoor track season ahead.
