COLGATE
WOMEN'S TENNIS SHOWS VAST IMPROVEMENT
The Colgate women's tennis team
made significant strides this season going from a
7-16 finish in 1999 to a six-game improvement
this season with a 13-9 overall mark and a 2-1
record in the Patriot League.
Colgate had captured
three-straight Patriot League Championship titles
before having that streak snapped in 1999. This
year, the Red Raiders' resurgance put them in the
Patriot League Championship finals, but they were
narrowly edged by Army 5-3.
Colgate finished second in the
league and returns all 12 letterwinners as its
quest to reclaim the Patriot League Championships
continues.
"The women's team made
incredible progress this season establishing
themselves as a team of tough competitors and
they now know what it takes to win a title,"
head coach Bob Dallis said. "We are excited
about the four players we are bringing in for
next season and are looking to challenge for the
Patriot League championship once again in
2001."
Among the newcomers for the
2000-2001 season are Nicole Scattolini
(Arlington, Va.), Kate Wolfe (Barrington, R.I.),
Emily Wenink (Penfield, N.Y.) and Lindsay
Suffredini (Burlington, Mass.).
Colgate freshman Jenny Buntman
(Glencoe, Ill.) was among the six singles players
named to the 2000 all-Patriot League squad, while
Buntman and fellow Illinois native Lorraine
Coulter (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) were among the
top doubles teams selected All-Patriot League.
Coulter and Lauren Erikson
(Hollis, N.H.) shared the Outstanding Player
award, while Crystal Hetem (Stormville, NY) was
named the Most Improved Player.
