CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- The Colgate women's tennis team placed two
players on the All-Patriot League squads on Monday. The 2002
rookie of the year, Marissa Alikpala earned first team honors, while
senior Lauren Erikson was tabbed with second team laurels.
Alikpala earns first
team honors after finishing the season 7-8 in spring match, number one
singles play. The sophomore struggled to finish up the campaign
winning just one of her last seven matches, but battled American's
number one player, Katarina Kollarova in the Patriot League tournament.
Erikson earns Patriot League honors for the second time in her career. In 2000-01
she earned second team singles honors. The
junior finished with a 5-13 spring record in number two singles play,
but was very effective at number one doubles for the Raiders.. She
teamed with Sheila Rao for a 5-5 spring doubles record..
Colgate finished the regular season second in the Patriot League and
dropped a 4-3 decision to American in the first round of the Patriot
League tournament.
