Raider Women's Tennis Faces Tough Opponents
at Lehigh October 21, 2001 Bethlehem, PA - Colgate University women's tennis opened the Patriot League Individual Tournament against fierce rivals at Lehigh University. The first day of the tournament included the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds of both singles and doubles action. In half of the singles flights, the Raiders advanced to at least the semifinal round. The Raiders also advanced to the second round in the first doubles flight. Strong performances were again turned in by first-year Marissa Alikpala, who dominated Lafayette's Monika Serrano in the first singles flight. Newcomer Jamie Maldow also outlasted her opponent from Lafayette in the first round of the third singles flight. Jessica Fede, seeded first in the sixth singles flight, is the only Colgate player who will participate in a championship match. Fede squeaked out a victory in her semifinal match over Jaclyn Ott from Army. In the first doubles flight, the strong duo of Emily Wenink and Lindsey Suffredini downed Bucknell's Nadezda Curcic and Ashley Diers. The Raiders will start day two of the competition at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Lewis Tennis Center.
