Hamilton, NY.  - The women's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches by defeating Bloomsburg University 5-2 Friday afternoon.  The Raiders continue play tomorrow at 5:00 pm. vs. University of Maryland-Baltimore County at the Sanford Field House.

The squad was again led by the outstanding play of its junior captain Lauren Erikson at the number two singles spot.  Erikson won a pivotal 3-set match against a resilient Beth Fulton, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.  Erikson's ability to battle back form the deficit epitomizes the attitude of her team.  Meanwhile, sophomore stalwart Jessica Fede improved her record to 11-2 on the season, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win.  Overall, Colgate captured 5 of the 6 singles matches.  

In doubles, the duo of Emily Wenink and Lindsey Suffredini faced some tough competition at number one.  A new pairing, Marissa Alikpala and Jamie Maldow, were edged out at number two.  However, Erikson and sophomore transfer Lindsey Sine emerged victorious in their third doubles contest.

UMBC Outlasts Raiders

February 9, 2002

Hamilton, NY.  In its second match in two days, the women's tennis team fell to a tough UMBC squad, 6-1.  The team drops to an even 3-3 on the spring season.  

In doubles action, captain Lauren Erikson and sophomore Lindsey Sine remain undefeated as doubles partners by edging out opponents Kathryn Wheatley & Aimee Lim 8-6.  Erikson and Sine now stand at an impressive 5-0 together on the season.  

In singles action, freshman star Marissa Alikpala squeezed by junior Anita Pushpanathan 6-1, 6-7, 7-5.  Alikpala's powerful serve along with her fundamental footwork were instrumental in her victory.  With this hard-fought win, she improves to 9-3 on the year.

The Raiders continue competition Saturday, February 16th, at 2:00pm. against Stony Brook.
