HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Colgate University women's ice hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Championships after its 2-0 victory against Sacred Heart in the quarterfinal round of the championships Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, the Red Raiders struck first at 14:12 of the second period on Maura Crowell's (Mansfield, Mass.) fourth goal of the season. Crowell received a pass on right post from Heather Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.) and tapped it in for the eventual-game-winning goal. Charlotte Davet (Montreal, Que.) was also credited with a helper on Crowell's goal and Colgate held a 1-0 edge at the second intermission.

The Red Raiders built a secure 2-0 lead at 13:15 of the third period with Casey Schofield's seventh of the season. Steph Sand passed the puck to Schofield behind the net on the left side and Schofield backhanded a shot in front that deflected of Derleth's pads and into the goal.

Despite the final score, the game was very close throughout, but Jen Burtraw was able to withstand Sacred Heart's pressure stopping all 31 Pioneer shots on goal to record her eighth shutout of the season. Sacred Heart's Kim Derleth stopped 38 of 30 shots on goal she faced.
