MIDDLEBURY SHUTS DOWN COLGATE 9-0 IN
SHOWDOWN OF NO. 1 & NO. 2 TEAMS IN COUNTRY

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Middlebury College womenís ice hockey team left little question about whoís #1 as they handed second-ranked Colgate their first league loss of the season by a score of 9-0.

The game was played before the largest crowd (575) ever to watch a womenís hockey game at the Kenyon Arena in Middlebury.

The Panthers got on the board first midway through the first periord when Angela Kapus put home a rebound after several Middlebury shots from the crease area. Middlebury made it a 2-0 game 3:42 into the second period when Amber Neil put in her own rebound.

The Panthers then netted three goals in 1:59 to take a 5-0 lead. Catherine Elkins started the run with a slapshot from between the circles. Sylvia Ryan, Middleburyís all-time leading goal scorer, netted the 100th of her career next as she scored on a backhander in the slot. Just 40 seconds later, Erin Neil flipped in a shot from the slot to make it a 5-0 game. Kapus netted her second of the game at the 15:15 mark to make it a 6-0 contest.

Ashley Morton, Michelle Labbe and Laurie Richmond added third period goals to seal the win.

Megan Hutchinson made four saves in goal for her fifth shutout of the season. Jen Burtraw made 37 saves for Colgate.
