ITHACA, N.Y.- The Colgate women’s hockey team found themselves in unfamiliar territory Thursday night as the Raiders and Cornell played to a 1-1 tie.  It was Colgate’s first overtime game of the season.  Kristy MacDonald’s fourth goal of the season at 7:12 of the third tied it up for Colgate.

The first period was played to a scoreless tie.  Colgate dominated the early stages of the first period with Carly McNaughton having two break-away chances stopped by Cornell goalie Sonya Sandahl.  Colgate’s Rebecca Lahar shut-out the Big Red on seven shots as the Raiders killed two Cornell power plays.

The second period saw each team have good opportunities with each netminder up to the task.  Cornell killed a five on three Colgate advantage and Rebecca Lahar kept the Big Red scoreless for most of the second period.  But, Jamie Ramenofsky finally cracked the scoreboard for Cornell at 19:45 of the second, when she dumped the puck into a crowd and it deflected into the net past a sprawling Lahar who actually stopped the puck initially.  The Big Red carried the 1-0 advantage at the end of two periods.

MacDonald netted her goal in the third to tie the game when she took a pass from Micki King.  Becky Irvine was credited with the assist for the Raiders.

Cornell outshot Colgate 36-30, but both goaltenders were up to the task allowing just one goal each.

Rebecca Lahar made 35 saves in another excellent performance between the pipes.

Colgate now 11-17-1 and 3-9-1 in the ECAC, earned its first tie with the Big Red, to stay one point ahead of Cornell for seventh place in the league.

The two teams will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Starr Rink.
