COLGATE FIGHTS HARD BUT FALLS TO MIGHTY DARTMOUTH, 7-1
Contact: Mike Zimmerman Colgate held the fourth ranked team in the nation scoreless in the first period. Both teams had some excellent chances in the period. Meagan Walton took a feed out in front of an empty net, but Rebecca Lahar made an excellent effort to lunge across the crease and turn the shot away. Amanda Barre missed a short-handed opportunity when she was turned away by Dartmouth's goalie Amy Ferguson just before the end of the first period. Dartmouth finally got on the board in the second period at 11:09 when Correne Bredin scored off an assist from Tiffany Hagge, giving Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. The Big Green got their second goal at 18:14 when Carly Haggard scored her sixth goal of the season off a feed from Amy Catlin, increasing Dartmouth's lead to 2-0. Rebecca Lahar continued her excellent play in the second period making 22 stops between the pipes in the frame. Dartmouth would pick up five goals in the final frame. Two by Meagan Walton, and Gillian Apps, and one by Carly Haggard. Colgate got its lone goal of the game at 15:40 of the third on a short-handed breakaway score by Amanda Barre. Rebecca Lahar finished a strong outing by earning the third star in making 43 saves. Dartmouth outshot Colgate 50-15 and was 1-3 on the power play. The Raiders went 0-3 on the power play. Colgate drops to 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in the ECAC, while the Big Green ups their record to 4-1 on the year and 3-1 in conference. Colgate is back in action Saturday night when it hosts Vermont at 4 p.m. |
