COLGATE SWEPT BY MAINE IN 3-1 LOSS
Contact: Mike Zimmerman ORONO, ME- The Colgate women's hockey team fell again to the Black Bears of Maine, 3-1 Tuesday evening at Alfond Arena. Maine was led by Megan Aarts with two goals and Naomi Smethurst with two assists. Aarts netted her fourth goal of the season at 13:43 of the second period off passes from Smethurst and Morgan Janusc, giving Maine a 1-0 lead. The Black Bears made it 2-0 at 4:19 of the third when Tristan Demset scored off an assist from Andrea Steranko. Colgate got on the board at 12:41 on the power play when Micki King scored her first collegiate goal. Allison Paiano was credited with the assist, cutting the lead to 2-1. Colgate pulled goaltender Rebecca Lahar to bring on the extra attacker, but Maine scored an empty net goal at 19:52. Aarts lit the lamp for the fifth time this season from Smethurst setting the final at 3-1. Maine outshot Colgate 33-17. Colgate went 1-6 on the power play, while the Black Bears were 0-5. Rebecca Lahar made 30 stops in the loss for Colgate. Maine has never lost to or tied Colgate in five meetings. Colgate now 9-9 on the season is back in action this weekend when Mercyhurst comes to Hamilton for two games. Face-off on Saturday is 2 p.m.
