Sophomore
Avery McGlenn (Coaldale, Alb.) picked
up her first career hat-trick plus an assist as the Raiders rolled over
Division III Union 8-0 Monday night at Achilles Rink. Freshman
Maura Kehoe (Chelsea, Que.) got
Colgate on the board early, with an unassisted goal at 2:22 of the first.
That score chased the Dutchwomen’s starting goaltender Victoria
Elkins (Bernardsville, N.J.) from the net, and she was replaced by
rookie Heather Olney (Rochester, N.H.). Freshman
Jen Fallon (Bayonne, N.J.) put the
Raiders up by two just 1:21 later, when she tallied her first collegiate
goal. Classmates Kristin
Cirbus (Jamestown, N.Y.) and Cheryl
Setchell (Sydney, N.S.) assisted on the tally. McGlenn
scored her first goal at 7:10 off a pass from Fallon, and senior Maura
Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.) scored the Raiders’ fourth goal at
11:24, with sophomore Lori Marshall
(Plano, Texas) and McGlenn getting credit for the helpers.
McGlenn ended the first period with her second goal, from senior Heather
Smith (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and Crowell. Colgate
slowed its blazing scoring pace in the second and third, tallying the last
three goals of the game in the middle stanza.
Freshman Shelby Nelson (Osterville,
Mass.) picked up her first career goal at 4:47.
Sophomore Katie Breen (North
Andover, Mass.) scored at 13:54 from Setchell and Cirbus, and McGlenn
topped off the game with a power-play goal, just eight seconds into the
man-advantage, from Cirbus and senior Heather
Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.). Junior
goaltender Jen Burtraw (Brantford, Conn.)
made nine saves to earn her 12th career shutout.
Elkins made five saves, while Olney had 30 in the loss. The
Raiders improve to 5-7-1, while Union drops to 2-8-1. Colgate returns to
action in the New Year on January 5th and 6th when
they travel to Mercyhurst. Colgate
