WOMEN'S HOCKEY DEFEATS COBOURG 6-1 IN EXHIBITION PLAY December 8, 2001 Contact: Michele Kelley Office: (315) 228-7602 Fax: (315) 228-7977 Email: mlkelley@mail.colgate.edu HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate women's hockey team ended the semester on a high note, as they put together a 6-1 defeat of the Cobourg AA club team in an exhibition on Saturday at Starr Rink. Freshman Cheryl Setchell (Sydney, N.S.) paced the Raiders with a pair of goals and two helpers. The rookie's goals opened the game's scoring, as she put Colgate on the board at 8:33, then extended the lead to two at 10:00 with a power-play goal. Sophomore Caitlin Hornyak (Middletown, Conn.) made the first period score 3-0 with her goal at 14:48. Cobourg alumna Kristy MacDonald (Cobourg, Ont.) assisted on the tally. At 15:54 of the second, senior Heather Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.) took a pass from Setchell and freshman Shelby Nelson (Osterville, Mass.) for her first of two goals in the game. Cobourg's Renee Dejardins ruined Colgate netminder Rebecca Lahar's (Vienna, Va.) chances for a shutout at 17:15, but that was all the Ontario-based team would get. Nelson and Murphy iced the game early in the third to put the final at 6-1. Lahar made 15 saves for the win, while Cobourg goalies Lindsay Holmes and Calli Bodnar split goaltending duties, with Holmes making eight saves and Bodnar making nine. The Raiders return to action on Monday, December 17 when they travel to Schenectady, N.Y. to face former Division III league foe Union at 7 p.m.
