NO.
3 BROWN SHUTOUTS OUT COLGATE 2-0 November 4, 2001 Contact: Michele Kelley Office: (315) 228-7602 Fax: (315) 228-7977 Email: mlkelley@mail.colgate.edu HAMILTON, N.Y. – With two early-period goals, the No. 3 Brown Bears defeated Colgate 2-0 Saturday at Starr Rink. The Raiders were able to contain Brown through the first stanza, while the shots stayed fairly even, as Colgate edged the Bears 10-9. At the start of the second, the Bears came out firing, as they kept Colgate goalie Lindsay Bourne (Redlands, Calif.) on her toes. About a minute into the period, Bourne lost her stick in a scramble, and was able to avoid three shots before Brown capitalized on the opportunity when junior Cassie Turner (Campbellford, Ont.) banged in a goal from classmate Courtney Johnson (Falmouth, Mass.). The remainder of the second was uneventful, but Brown returned to the ice for the third with the same energy they had displayed at the start of the middle stanza. Fifteen seconds into the last 20, senior Kristy Zambora (Oshawa, Ont.) scored on a pass from rookie Amy McLaughlin (Berlin, Mass.) and Turner. Bourne made 36 saves in the loss, while Brown sophomore Katie Germain (Sarnia, Ont.) stopped 25 shots for the shutout. Brown hosts Dartmouth on Friday, November 9, while Colgate entertains the North American Hockey Academy for an exhibition on Saturday, November 10.
