COLGATE
WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY SKATES TO A 1-1 TIE WITH NO. 10 HARVARD November 3, 2001 Contact: Michele Kelley Office: (315) 228-7602 Fax: (315) 228-7977 Email: mlkelley@mail.colgate.edu HAMILTON, N.Y. – Raider rookie goaltender Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.) made 44 saves as she kept No. 10 Harvard to just one goal in a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at Starr Rink. Lahar kept Colgate in the game as the Crimson out-shot the Raiders 45-18 in the contest. Harvard junior defenseman Pamela Van Ressema (Greenwich, Conn.) opened the game with a power-play score from classmate Jamie Hagerman (Wenham, Mass.) at 17:19 of the first. Hagerman took a shot, which Lahar thought she had, but Van Ressema found the loose puck and shot it in. The Raiders were able to contain the potent Harvard offense through the end of the game. After several good scoring chances, Colgate crashed the Crimson zone on a 3-on-2. Freshman Shelby Nelson (Osterville, Mass.) skated up the left side and passed the puck down to fellow rookie Amanda Barre (Grafton, Ont.). Barre picked it up and crossed it to Cheryl Setchell (Sydney, N.S.) at the top of the crease who slipped it past Harvard netminder Alison Kuusisto (Duluth, Minn.) to tie the game and force overtime. Lahar was equally outstanding in the extra period as she had been during regulation. Harvard put six shots on her, and she stopped every single one, while Colgate didn't get a single shot on Kuusisto. Colgate (2-2-1, 0-0-1 ECAC-North) hosts No. 3 Brown Sunday at 2 p.m., while Harvard (0-0-1, 0-0-1 ECAC-North) travels to Cornell to finish the weekend.
