HAMILTON, N.Y. – The new Division I Colgate women's ice hockey team got a chance to stretch its legs Saturday night in an exhibition match-up with the Washington D.C. Pride, a highly-selective club team made up of girls between the ages of 14 and 18 years.

The Raiders saw some exciting play from several of their 10 freshmen, most notably Cheryl Setchell (Sydney, Nova Scotia), who banged home two goals, including the game-winner, and assisted on a power-play tally by fellow rookie Shelby Nelson (Osterville, Mass.).  First-year Kristin Cirbus (Jamestown, N.Y.), along with Nelson, assisted on Setchell's game-winner, while classmates Amanda Barre (Grafton, Ont.) and Chelsey Rhodes (Champion, Alberta) added helpers on her second goal.

Freshman center Kristy MacDonald (Cobourg, Ont.) won six of the eight face-offs she took as she led the Raiders in that category.  The 5-8 rookie also scored a goal, which was assisted by sophomore Katie Koch (Exeter, N.H.), who had two helpers on the night.

Second-year standout Avery McGlenn (Coaldale, Alberta) chipped in two goals, including a short-handed tally 3:21 into the game.  Both of McGlenn's goals were assisted by freshman center Maura Kehoe (Chelseam, Quebec), while sophomore Katie Breen (North Andover, Mass.) picked up a helper on both of McGlenn's goals.

While the Raiders threw 44 shots at Pride goalie Roxanne Gaudiel (Venice, Fla.), Colgate's goaltending trio, who each played for one period, saw a total of seven shots on the night.  Freshmen Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.) and Lindsay Bourne (Redlands, Calif.) played the first and second halves (respectively) with Lahar leaving the game without a single save, and Bourne making two stops while giving up the first DC goal.  Junior netminder Jen Burtraw (Brantford, Conn.) stepped in for the third, making two saves and allowing the last two Washington tallies.

The Raiders begin their regular season at home on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 and 21, when they host the Black Bears of Maine for a two-game series at Starr Rink.  The games, which both begin at 2 p.m., will mark the first that Colgate will play as a Division I team.
