The determined play of the Raider defense and solid
goaltending from freshman starting netminder Rebecca
Lahar (Vienna, Va.) kept the potent Big Green offense from getting on
the board in the first period, as Lahar turned aside 18 Dartmouth shots
compared to the three that Colgate managed to get on target. The Raiders’ luck wouldn’t last, however, as
Dartmouth broke out for four goals in the middle period, out shooting
Colgate 23-8. It took a two-man advantage for the Big Green to get
on the board at 4:33 of the second period.
After back-to-back roughing calls on the Raiders, Dartmouth took
less than a minute to capitalize as junior Carly Haggard
(Port Alberni, B.C.) passed to rookie Meagan Walton
(Calgary, Alta.) who shot in, and classmate Cheryl Muranko (Cambridge, Ont.) picked up the rebound for
the goal. The Big Green used the remaining power play time to
set up their second goal that came at 5:32.
Sophomores Sarah
Clark (Novi, Mich.)
and Louise Pietrangelo (Niagara Falls, Ont.)
set up senior Kristin
King (Piqua, Ohio) who
gave Dartmouth the 2-0 lead. At 11:55, rookie Kristin
Dornfried (Framington, Mich.) scored off a set-up by
classmate Danielle Grundy (Kelowna, B.C.),
and Clark made it 4-0 at 17:01 with Haggard and King getting credited with
the assists. Dartmouth sealed its victory with two goals in the
third period. Haggard picked up her
third point of the game with a goal at 4:44 as Walton and Pietrangelo got
the helpers, and Clark finished the Raiders off with 31 seconds to play in
the game, off a set up by Haggard and King. Lahar set another career high for saves with 58, eclipsing Friday’s total of 55, in the loss. Dartmouth’s Kate Cochrane (Hancock, N.H.) earned the shutout victory by making 15 saves. Dartmouth
advances to the championships which will be held March 16-17 in
Hanover. The Raiders complete their season with an 11-20-2 overall
record, going 2-12-2 in the ECAC-North.
