N.Y.
– Cornell junior Brooke Bestwick (Nanaimo, B.C.) scored the
game-winning goal and added an assist as the Big Red skated to a 3-0 win
to complete the weekend sweep over travel partner Colgate on Saturday at
Lynah Rink. Cornell
got on the board at 6:48 of the first, when a Colgate defender turned the
puck over on a cross-ice pass to sophomore Anita Khar (Stamford, Conn.).
Khar passed it to Bestwick who put it top-shelf on Raider starting
goaltender Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.). Lahar
kept Cornell from adding any insurance tallies by making 11 saves in the
second period, including killing off two Big Red power plays. Cornell
scored its second goal at 4:51 of the third period, as sophomore Briana
Jentner (Akron, Ohio) and Bestwick set up rookie Pearle Nerenberg (Lachute,
Que.) along the right boards for another top-shelf score on Lahar. Despite
putting nine shots on Big Red netminder Sanya Sandahl (Duluth, Minn.),
Colgate never managed to score. Junior
Lindsay Murao (Richmond, B.C.) iced the game with an empty net goal
at 19:32 of the final period, with seniors Jenel Bode (Yorkton, Sask.)
and Sarah Olivier (Gloucester, Ont.) getting credit for the
assists. Lahar
made 38 saves in her second loss of the weekend, while Sandahl earned her
first shutout of the season with 17 stops. The
Big Red will play third-seed St. Lawrence in the first round of the ECAC-North
tournament, while Colgate travels to regular season champion Dartmouth for
the best-of-three series.
