CANTON, N.Y. – St. Lawrence sophomore Gina Kingsbury (Rouyn-Noranda, Que.) scored twice in the last 1:45 of the third period to steal a 2-1 win over visiting Colgate on Saturday at Appleton Arena.

The Saints doubled-up the Raiders in the shots category in the first period, out-gunning them 14 to seven, but the scoreboard told a different story, as Colgate went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.  Senior Heather Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.) received a pass from sophomore Kara Lisavich (Salem, N.H.) as she entered the zone, ripped a shot on St. Lawrence goaltender Rachel Barrie (Arnprior, Ont.), grabbed her own rebound, and slipped it in off a bad angle shot along the goal line for her sixth of the season at 8:11.

The strong play of Colgate’s rookie goaltender Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.) kept the Saints off the board through the second period, as she made 15 saves, including five on St. Lawrence’s pair of power play opportunities.

It looked as if the Raiders were going to steal a win from the No. 7 Saints, but with just 1:45 left in regulation, junior Trisha Powers (Spencerville, Ont.) and senior captain Meghan Maguire (East Falmouth, Mass.) fed Kingsbury, who stuffed the puck by Lahar to knot the game at one.  Just 29 seconds later, Kingsbury deflected a Maguire shot for the game-winner to give St. Lawrence the 2-1 victory.

Lahar put forth a valiant effort, but her 40 saves were not enough as Barrie took the win with 18 stops.

Colgate wraps up its regular season with a home-and-home series with travel partner Cornell, March 1 and 2, beginning on Friday with a 7 p.m. game at Starr Rink.
