Hamilton, N.Y. – In a thrilling 2-1 triple-overtime victory, seventh-seeded Colgate defeated number two-seed Vermont in the ECAC Women’s Division III quarterfinal round.  Heather Murphy netted the game-winning goal 106:22 seconds into the contest, setting a record for longest game played by a Colgate hockey team, men’s or women’s.

For their efforts, the Red Raiders (15-7-3, 11-4-3 ECAC) will advance to the ECAC tournament to be hosted by top-seed Middlebury.  Because they are the lowest seed in the tournament, the Red Raiders will face the host Panthers on Saturday, March 3 at 12:30 pm.  The winner will advance to the championship game.

This is the second consecutive year that Colgate has appeared in the semifinals.  Last year, the eventual national champion Middlebury cut their post-season run short in the ECAC championship game with a 5-1 loss.  Earlier this season, the Red Raiders fell to the Panthers, 3-2 at Starr Rink.  In the five year history of its program, Middlebury (19-1-1, 17-0-1) is undefeated in league play, with a record of 111-0-1 in the ECAC.
