ST. MARY’S STOPS COLGATE’S FOUR-GAME WINNING STREAK IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY

               HAMILTON, N.Y. --  Tennie McCabe scored two goals and added one assist to lead the St. Mary’s women’s hockey team to a 6-3 win over Colgate Sunday at Starr Rink.

                The Cardinals’ victory gave St. Mary’s a split of its weekend series against the Red Raiders, who won Saturday’s game 3-2.

                St. Mary’s is 4-3 overall, while Colgate (4-2) had its four-game winning streak stopped by the Cardinals.  St. Mary’s had four power-play goals and two shorthanded tallies despite being outshot by Colgate 37-18.

                St. Mary’s opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 8:25 of the first period by Kelly O’Neil.  Colgate came back for a 2-1 lead on goals by Nicole Lehroff and Katie Koch later in the period, before Christy Hicks scored shorthanded for the Cardinals to tie the score 2-2 after one period.

                St. Mary’s scored three times in the second period for a 5-2 lead.  The goal-scorers were Tasa Kostel and Emily Kearns on the power play and McCabe shorthanded.

                McCabe extended the visitors lead to 6-2 with a power-play goal at 7:29 of the third period, before Colgate’s Kara Lisavich scored a power-play goal two minutes later to close out the scoring.  Colgate’s Heather Murphy (St. Paul, Minn.) assisted on Lisavich’s goal to become Colgate’s all-time leading scorer with 106 points.

                St. Mary’s goalie Missie Meemken stopped 34 shots, while Jen Burtraw kicked out 12 for the Red Raiders.
