NO. 2-RANKED RED RAIDERS OPEN LEAGUE PLAY WITH 5-1 VICTORY AGAINST WESLEYAN

Hamilton, N.Y. -- The No. 2-nationally ranked Colgate University women's ice hockey team overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Wesleyan College 5-1 behind goals from five different players Saturday night in Starr Rink.

WC's Liz Adams put the Cardinals ahead 1-0 at 2:41 of the first period with assists from Jessica Ziemian and Kierstan Von Trapp.

Colgate's Caitlin Hornyak evened the score at 1-1 just under six minutes later with helpers from Heather Murphy and Maura Crowell. While Annie Stover gave the Red Raiders their first lead at 11:31 of the first period on feeds from Kara Lisavich and Rachel Mascetta.

Mascetta earned first-star honors collecting three assists on the evening, while Maura Crowell added a goal and a helper on the night.

Avery McGlenn recorded her first collegiate goal of the season to put Colgate up 3-1 at the 4:30 into the second period, while Crowell scored her first goal of the season at 10:57 of the third period. Katie Koch scored her second of the season at 16:36 to close out the Colgate scoring.

Jen Burtraw picked up the victory for Colgate in the pipes saving six of seven shots faced in 30:15 of action, while Kari Dequine relieved Burtraw playing 29:45 and stopping all four shots faced. Emma Desimone recorded 30 saves for Wesleyan.

The Red Raiders close out the ECAC Division III weekend series against Connecticut College tomorrow at Starr Rink with face-off at 3 p.m.
