RED RAIDERS TURN THE TABLES ON WAYNE STATE WITH 3-1 WIN TO SPLIT WOMEN'S HOCKEY SERIES

Detroit, Mich. -- It was the same two teams and the same score as last night, but with a different victor this afternoon as the Colgate University women's ice hockey team defeated Wayne State to split the weekend series.

Two Red Raider freshmen scored the first two goals after a scoreless first period.  Katie Koch netted a power play goal from junior Heather Murphy at 7:05 of the 2nd, and Caitlin Hornyak scored the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining in the game.  Senior co-captain Lauren Pufahl beat Wayne State netminder Stacey Bowden with 33 seconds left to finish the Colgate victory.

Sophomore Jen Burtraw turned aside 24 shots in the game for the Red Raiders, for eight saves in each period.  The only one that got by her was a shot from Wayne State's Kim Spaulding at 18:51 of the second.

Colgate plays its home opener at Starr Rink next weekend in conjunction with the Silver Puck festivities.  They will host Wesleyan on Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Connecticut on Sunday at 3 pm.
