WOMEN'S HOCKEY DROPS SEASON OPENER
TO WAYNE STATE, 3-1

Detroit, Mich. -- Wayne State's Kelly Pike scored the game winning goal at 15:15 of the 2nd period to lift her team to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Colgate University squad.

The Red Raiders were able to keep the hosts scoreless for almost the entire first period, but with 14 seconds before the buzzer sounded, the lamp was lit when Wayne State's Annie Devaney put a pass from Kelly Meech and Kim Spaulding past Colgate sophomore netminder Jen Burtraw.

Junior Heather Murphy scored the lone point for the Red Raiders off a feed from sophomore Maura Crowell and junior Kelly Roos a minute and a half after Pike's goal for Wayne State.  Jamie Herod secured the win for the home team at 5:15 of the 3rd period with an unassisted goal.
