HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate University athletic department has announced the hiring of Mari McClure as an assistant coach for the Raiders’ women’s basketball team.

“We are very excited to have Mari join our staff,” said head coach Beth Spycher Combs. “She was a standout player for the University at Buffalo and I know that she will be able to build on the success she had as a student-athlete to help our team.”

A native of Rochester Hills, Mich., McClure comes to Hamilton after an exceptional playing career at the University at Buffalo. A four-year letterwinner for the Bulls, McClure received numerous awards. She was named the team’s Most Improved Player in 1999 and won the Coaches’ Award for Most Distinguished in Character in 2000. Her final season at UB, she was named second team all-Mid-American Conference, the team’s Most Valuable Player and was a nominee for UB’s female Athlete of the Year. She finished her career ranked in the top-10 of 11 career record categories and is UB’s all-time career record holder in free throw percentage with an 81.9 mark.

A true student-athlete, McClure won several academic distinctions. She was a University at Buffalo Scholar-Athlete from 1997-2001. In 2001 she was named to the M.A.C. Academic Honor Roll, the Verizon Academic all-American District Team and won the M.A.C. Scholars-Commissioner’s Award.

McClure will handle various duties, including recruiting, working with perimeter players, scouting, organizing travel, community service events and working with the Raider booster club. She begins at Colgate on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2002.
