HAMILTON, N.Y. Colgate University women’s basketball player Ali Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa/Dowling High School), has received the Gottesman Award announced by athletic director Mark Murphy.

The Gottesman Award was established by Dr. Robin I. Gottesman and is given annually to the senior student-athlete who has excelled in both the sciences and athletics and plans to attend graduate school in the sciences.

Hanson was a four-year letterwinner on the Raider basketball team and finished her playing career as one of four women in Colgate history to amass over 600 points, 400 rebounds and 300 assists. Her 377 career assists placed her fourth on the Raider all-time list and 10th overall in Patriot League history. Hanson also finished third overall in Colgate history in career assist average (3.66), sixth in career three-pointers (68) and ninth in steals (197).

In the classroom, Hanson holds a 3.52 grade point average while majoring in Molecular Biology. She has made the dean’s list every semester, was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2000, 2001 and 2002. She is a member of the Tri Beta Biological Honor Society and this past summer was awarded a Cancer Research Training Award to do cancer research at the National Institutes of Health.
