Women’s Basketball Trounces Centenary, 89-63

AMES, IOWASophomore Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio) led all scorers as the Colgate women’s basketball team downed Centenary College, 89-63 at the Hilton Coliseum on Friday evening in the opening round of the Cyclone Classic. With the win, Colgate improves to 4-3 and will take on the host Iowa State Cyclones tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m.

The Ladies scored the first two points of the contest on free throws before the Raiders went on a 15-0 run to take a commanding 15-2 lead at 15:35. Colgate took its largest lead of the half at the 1:58 mark, leading Centenary 44-21 before taking a 47-26 lead at the break.

The second half belonged to the Raiders who at one point held a 34 point advantage, leading the Ladies 75-41 with 11:37 left in the game. Colgate cruised to the 89-63 victory.

Five Raiders scored in double-digits with Lipinski leading the way with a season-high 22 points. Freshman Meghan Curtin (Bronx
, N.Y.) had a personal-best 18 points while junior Malissa Burke (Traverse City, Mich.) and senior Ali Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa) registered 10 points apiece. Hanson also dished out nine assists and grabbed seven boards. Sophomore Milaina Lagzdins (Burlington, Ontario) registered her second double-double of the year with a 14-point 13-rebound performance.  

Centenary (2-5) was led by Julie Daniels with 17 points.

The Raiders are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m., as face the host Cyclones.
