Falls to Columbia, 78-63 Sophomore Malaina Lagzdins leads Raiders in losing effort.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sophomore Milaina Lagzdins (Burlington, Ontario) led the Colgate women’s basketball team with a 14-point, eight-rebound performance as the Raiders fell to Columbia University 78-63 at Levien Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-3 while the Lions improve to 3-0 on the season. Columbia took
control early in the game, leading 28-18 with 6:53 left in the half before
the Raiders fought back, tying it at
3:57
with 32 points apiece. The Lions defense would only allow one Colgate
basket in the final minutes, while Columbia was able to sink four field
goals, including a three, for the five-point lead, 39-34, at the break. Susan Kern led all scorers with 18 points for the Lions while Carolyn Schook chipped in 13. The Raiders are back in action on Friday, Dec. 6 as they travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to face Long Island University in the Cornell University Tournament at 5 p.m.
