Women’s Basketball
Defeated by Buffalo, 65-46 Junior Malissa Burke leads the Raiders with 12 points.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BUFFALO, N.Y. –The Colgate women’s basketball team fell to the University at Buffalo, 65-46 at Alumni Arena on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-2 while the Bulls improve to 2-0 on the season. Buffalo had three players register double-digit points with Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe leading the way with 11 while Jessica Kochendorfer and Rachel Martin tallied 10 points apiece. Colgate junior co-captain Malissa Burke (Traverse City, Mich.) led all scorers with 12 points while sophomore Allison Lipinski netted nine. Sophomore Milaina Lagzdins (Burlington, Ontario) and freshman Devon Warwick (Amesbury, Mass.) both tallied a game-high seven rebounds. The Raiders kept the game close in the first half with a stifling defense which held Buffalo to 29.4 percent shooting from the floor and 00.0 percent from beyond the arc. A late run by the Bulls’ Erin Lawrenson and Kochendorfer, who scored the final four points of the half, gave Buffalo a 28-25 lead going into the locker room. The teams exchanged baskets for the first several minutes of the second half before the Bulls used an 11-1 run to take a commanding 43-31 lead at 11:58. The Raiders are back in action on Sunday, Dec. 1 as they travel to New York, N.Y., to take on Columbia University at 2 p.m.
