Hunt scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead
second-seeded American University to a 71-65 win over seventh seeded
Colgate University Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2003
Patriot League Tournament at the Show Place Arena.
American (18-10) advances to
the semifinal round of the tournament on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
against the winner of the Lehigh-Army game.
Other American players in
double figures for the Eagles were Joanna Barnes with 13 points
followed by Chanel Spriggs with 11 and Katryn Costenbader 10.
Emily Braseth and Malissa
Burke paced Colgate with 14 points apiece, while Alison Hanson tallied
10 points.
American had control of the
contest in the first half jumping out to a 22-7 lead before cut the
deficit to eight points, 33-25, with under two minutes left in the
half. The Eagles held a 37-25 halftime lead.
In the second half, the
Eagles led 59-43 with 8:15 remaining before Colgate rallied with a
21-5 run to tie the contest 64-64 with 2:25 left. Burke had seven
points for the Raiders in the run while Braseth tallied four points.
American recaptured the lead
for good 66-64 on two foul shots by Barnes with 2:00 remaining. |
