WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Emily Braseth (E. Grand Rapids, Mich.) led all scorers with a career-high 28 points as the Colgate women’s basketball team fell to Army, 73-64, on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena.

Colgate (7-15, 2-8) got on the board first as Braseth hit a jumper to begin the game but the Black Knights held the Raiders scoreless for the next three minutes as they scored 10 straight points before Braseth made a lay up to end the scoring drought. Army came right back as Katie Macfarlane made a lay up to give Army its largest lead of the half, 12-4, before Colgate scored the next nine points. The Raider run included back-to-back jumpers by Braseth, a lay up by sophomore Milaina Lagzdins (Burlington, Ontario) and steal by senior Ali Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa) who took it all the way for the lay up and then converted a foul shot for a three-point play to give Colgate its first lead of the game, 13-12 with 12:52 left in the half. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way with the lead changing hands eight times and the score being tied five times. The Raiders, who forced 18 turnovers in the first half, took the slim 28-27 advantage into the locker room.

Macfarlane hit the first shot of the second half to put the Black Knights back on top momentarily, 29-28 before sophomore Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa.) hit back-to-back jumpers from the foul line and Braseth added another basket to give the Raiders their largest lead of the game two minutes into the half, 34-29. Army battled back, scoring five straight to tie the score at 34 apiece. The half continued as a back and fourth battle with a total of 12 lead changes and eight ties. With the score knotted at 53 the Black Knight began to pull away, outscoring Colgate 20-11 down the stretch to take the 73-64 victory.

Braseth’s 28 points came on 9-of-21 shooting from the floor and career-best tying 10-for-17 performance from the charity stripe. She also led the Raiders with six rebounds. Freshman Megan Ballard (Atlanta, Ga.) was the only other Raider in double-figures, scoring 11 points, including a 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc. Hanson had an all-around strong performance, scoring eight points, registering a career-high seven steals, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Army (12-12, 4-6) was led by Macfarlane with 20 points and Shavonne Holden who registered a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double.

The Raiders return to Hamilton, N.Y., for their final home series of the season, facing Navy on Friday, Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m., and American on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1:00 p.m.
