Edged by Lehigh, 83-77
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior Malissa Burke (Traverse City, Mich.) led four Raiders in double-figures with a season-high 19 points, including a 3-for-5 performance from three point range, as the Colgate women’s basketball team fell to Patriot League leading Lehigh, 83-77 on Sunday afternoon on Cotterell Court. Colgate (6-13, 1-6) shot a blazing 63% from the floor and went 6-for-8 from three point range in the first half while holding the Mountain Hawks to 33.3% shooting. The Raiders used a 20-4 run to begin the game and led by as many as 20 points, taking a 40-20 lead with 3:33 remaining in the half but down the stretch, Colgate was outscored 11-5 to cut the lead to 45-31 at the intermission. The second half began with Lehigh going on an 11-3 run to cut the Raider lead to four, 48-44 at the 16:18 mark before Burke hit a jumper to take the lead back to six. The teams exchanged baskets before the Mountain Hawks used a 5-1 run to take their first lead of the game, 54-53 at the 10:59 mark. Sophomore Emily Braseth (E. Grand Rapids, Mich.) made a lay up to give Colgate its last lead of the game, 55-54 with 9:49 left. The Raiders were outscored 22-14 the rest of the way as Lehigh took the 83-77 win. The Raiders were led by Burke’s 19 points while Braseth added 17. Freshman Megan Ballard (Atlanta, Ga.) and senior Ali Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa) added 13 points apiece. Sophomore Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa.) led the Raiders with seven rebounds. Lehigh (9-10, 6-1) was led Dawn Gorynski with 23 points and Carli Toliver with 20. Anne Tierney and Jessica DePalo added 14 and 12 points, respectively. The Raiders are back in action on Friday, Feb. 7 as they head to Easton, Pa., to face Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. NOTE:
