Drops Final Non-Conference Game to Harvard, 69-54
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
–The Colgate women’s basketball team dropped its final non-conference game
of the season to Harvard, 69-54, on Tuesday evening at Lavietes Pavilion.
Harvard, last season's Ivy League champions, moved out to a 7-2 lead to open up the half before Colgate battled back to move ahead 11-10 with 14:46 remaining. Though the Raiders tied things up at 13-13 with 13:44 on the clock, Colgate would not lead again in the contest as Harvard took a 38-25 edge heading to the locker room. The Crimson kept its lead alive in the second half, holding an 18-point edge, 51-33, at the 14:08. Freshman Megan Ballard (Atlanta, Ga.) drained a three to pull the Raiders to within 11 and then cut Harvard's lead to nine with 11:40 remaining in the game, as she connected on a pair of free throws. Harvard’s Reka Cserny hit two from the charity stripe and then made a layup to put the Crimson out front, 61-47 with 6:43 to play and Harvard maintained a 10-point or better lead for the remainder of the game, as the Crimson went on to a 69-54 win. Colgate (5-7) was
led by sophomore Emily Braseth (E. Grand Rapids, Mich.) who went 4-for-7
from the floor and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe for a season-high 12
points while junior Malissa Burke (Traverse
City, Mich.) added 11 points. Senior Ali Hanson (Norwalk,
Iowa) had solid all-around performance with eight points, five assists,
five steals and four rebounds. Ballard had her strongest outing of the
season registering eight points, five assists, four steals and four
rebounds. The Raiders will begin conference play on Saturday, Jan. 11 when they face Lafayette on Cotterell Court at 1:00 p.m.
