Young Named Women's Basketball Assistant July 13, 2001 Hamilton, NY - Hollie Young, former Red Raider forward and Colgate alumna, has been named an assistant coach for the 2001-02 basketball season by Colgate University's Head Women's Basketball Coach Beth Spycher. "Hollie will be a great asset to the program," remarked Spycher. "Her playing experience overseas, as well as her achievements as a Colgate student-athlete, will greatly benefit our program. We are very excited to have her on board." Young, a four-year letterwinner for the Red Raiders from 1997-00, served as a co-captain during the 1999-00 season. Throughout her four years at Colgate, Young's career was marked by continual improvement and dedication, becoming one of the best players in the Patriot League during her senior year. In her final season in a Red Raider uniform, Young was recognized as on of the most feared shot-blockers in the league. Young led the Patriot League in blocked shots with 34 (1.21 per game) and she was the team's top rebounder, fifth in the Patriot League, averaging 6.9 boards per game and the team's third leading scorer with 10.7 points per contest. Following her graduation from Colgate, Young worked at the University as an intern in the student activities office from September to October and then headed to Heidenheim, Germany in November to play professional basketball. Young graduated from Colgate in May of 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience. Young, along with her coaching responsibilities, will also be working as an intern in the Student Activities office at the University. During her years at Colgate, Young was active within several organizations, including the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was instrumental in the implementation of the GATE CHOICES program, which provides monthly alcohol-free social alternatives for students. She also was the vice president of Konosioni, Colgate's senior honor society and a recipient of the Colgate Alumni Memorial Scholarship for her outstanding dedication to Colgate and the surrounding community. |
