Central Florida Ices Foul Shots to Halt Raider Attack.

San Juan, Puerto Rico. - The University of Central Florida's Erin Page went 4 for 4  from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds in game five of the San Juan Shootout in San Juan, Puerto Rico to halt a Colgate come-back effort and seal the 90-84 win for the Golden Knights.  Colgate fall to 0-4 on the season while UCF improves to 2-2.  

 

Ali Roberts' led Central Florida with 18 points on 7 for 9 shooting and a 4 for 5 mark from the free throw line, while Erin Paige netted 19 for the Golden Knights and a game-high nine rebounds.  Jessica Scala and Marvelous Washington chipped in with 13 points a piece while Scala shared rebounding honors with Paige collecting nine caroms.   

 

The Raiders had five players in double-figures and were led by sophomore Malissa Burke's (E. Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids) game-high 21 points. Freshmen Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield), Emily Braseth (E. Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids), and Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) each were in double-figures scoring 16, 13 and 11 points respectively, while sophomore Victoria Briscoe (Landover, Md./Riverdale Baptist) contributed a solid effort with 11 points, five rebounds,  and four assists.    

 

 After leading by as much as 19 points in the second half, the University of Central Florida found itself in a vicarious position as a young Raider squad roared back late in the second half to trail by only two points, 86-84, with 34 seconds remaining.  

 

Fuller sank two free throws following a foul by UCF's Ali Roberts to cap off a 24-13 run by the Raiders to trail by only two points 86-84 in the final moments of the game.   Burke scored 10 of her game-high 21 points in the rally on on two clutch three-point field goals and four of four shooting from the charity stripe.  

 

Colgate will play the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in game nine of the San Juan Shootout, Sunday November 25, at noon.
