Raider Women's Basketball Chips in at
Hamilton Public Library August 30, 2001 Senior Sarah Parks and sophomore Shannon Baille trade lifting weights for lifting books and shelving at the Hamilton Public Library.
Hamilton, N.Y. - Several members of the Colgate women's basketball team took time out of their busy schedules during the first week of the new academic year to chip in at the Hamilton Public Library. The Hamilton Library, which is in the process of some renovations, was looking for some volunteers to help move shelving, books and other library equipment, and the Raiders were more than happy to help out alongside several members of the community. After receiving an e-mail from first-year head coach Beth Spycher announcing the need for volunteers, the Raiders organized themselves into two shifts to go and help move some books. "We try to encourage community service as part of the athletic experience at Colgate," said Spycher. "It is a good way for our team to become a cohesive unit and it gives us a chance to get involved in the community." |
