Nebraska Downs Colgate 86-45 at San Juan

Cowgill hit seven threes in eight tries netting 23 points to lead Nebraska
past Colgate, 86-45, Friday in the first game of the San Juan Shootout in
San Juan, Puerto Rico. Colgate
is now 0-3 while Nebraska remains undefeated at 3-0.
Colgate will play the University of Central Florida Saturday,
November 24 at noon in game five of the tournament. Colgate stayed with Nebraska for much of the first half, trailing by only four points at 26-22 with five minutes remaining in the first half, as the Raiders used a balanced scoring attack to keep within striking distance of the Cornhuskers. However, Nebraska pulled away on a 12-2 run to take 38-25 lead in the first half. Nebraska’s Kesha Cannon had seven points in the Huskers scoring spurt. Nebraska widened its lead in the second half as the Huskers outscored the Raiders 15-3 in the first five minutes of the second stanza as Cowgill netted 11 points on two three-pointers and a lay-up. Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield) led Colgate with nine points. Lipinski has led the Raiders in scoring in each of their three games. Sophomore Malissa Burke (E. Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids) had a solid eight point, three rebound performance, while Emily Braseth (East Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids), Alison Hanson (Norwalk, Iowa/Dowling), and Sarah Parks (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline) each chipped in with seven points a piece for Colgate. |
