Raiders Use Balanced Attack to Hold Off Mt. St. Mary's 85-75

Philadelphia, Pa. - Colgate used four players in double-figures to hold off Mt. St. Mary's 85-75, Saturday in the consolation game of the La Salle Invitational in Philadelphia, Pa. at Tom Gola Arena.   Colgate improves to 6-7 while Mt. St. Mary's drops its second straight to fall to 4-6. 

 

Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights)led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, including five three-point field goals.  With 44 three-point field goals this season, Lipinski is second in three-point field goals in a season and 10th for three-pointers in a career.  

 

Sophomore Malissa Burke (E. Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids) continued her steady play netting 15 points and grabbing four rebounds while Victoria Briscoe (Landover, Md./Riverdale Baptist) scored a career-high 14 points to go along with her six rebounds and four assists.  Senior Sarah Parks (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) was two rebounds and one steal away from a triple-double hitting the nets for 13 points, while snagging eight rebounds and nine steals.

 

Taylor Long led Mt. St. Mary's with a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Rebecca Wike chipped in with 16 points and seven rebounds while Kianna Fobbs had 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and seven steals.  

 

The Raiders led by as much as 19 with 15 minutes remaining in the game, before Mt. St. Mary's cut the lead to six at 58-52 on a 15-2 run capped by a lay-up by Wike.  The Raiders countered however increasing the lead to 13 with seven minutes to go, 71-58, before Mt. St. Mary's closed the gap to four with a little over three minutes remaining, 73-69, on a three-point basket by Tara Hennessy.   The Raiders Victoria Briscoe halted the any thoughts of a Mt. St. Mary's comeback bid knocking down a clutch three-pointer to push the Colgate lead to seven with two minutes remaining in the game.  The Raiders outscored Mt. St. Mary's 12-6 in the final minutes of the game knocking down 9-of-10 free throws.
