Long Island Rallies For A 69-65 Win Over

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Kim Mac Millan scored 23 points and fellow junior Tara Hamilton added five clutch points in the final 65 seconds as Long Island extended its winning streak to three games with a 69-65 win over Colgate at the Schwartz Center. Emily Braseth hit a layup to pull Colgate (2-5) within 61-58 with 4:23 left and added a layup two minutes later for a one-point deficit. Shelly Nicholls nailed two free throws with 2:08 remaining as LIU led 63-60. After Sarah Parks hit a foul shot to bring the Raiders within, 63-61, Hamilton began her heroics. She received a pass from Mac Millan and buried a crucial 3-pointer from the right corner with 1:05 left for a five-point cushion. Alison Hanson made a layup that brought Colgate to 66-63, but LIU scored the next three points to ice the contest. Hamilton drilled two huge free throws with 15.8 seconds left and Corinne Broadhead added one with 6.7 seconds to go. Malissa Burke finished with 16 points for the Raiders, while Braseth added 12 and Hanson 11. Hanson also moved into a tie for eighth place in career assists with 251. The Raiders, who led 35-32 at halftime, hit just 37 percent in the final 20 minutes and 39 percent overall. Colgate will be back in action next Saturday, when they travel to the University at Albany for a 1 p.m. contest. |
