Hamilton, N.Y. - Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) scored a career-high 28 points on 8-for-13 shooting from three-point range, setting a new Patriot League women's basketball record for three-point field goals in a season with 96, breaking a nine-year old record of 93 set by Heather Donlon of Fordham in 1993, to lead Colgate to a 94-75 Patriot League win over Lafayette (3-24, 1-13), Saturday at Cotterell Court. Lipinski's eight three-point field goals also establishes a new Colgate single-game record for threes.
The Raiders, 13-16 overall and 7-7 in the Patriot League, had four players in double-figures led by Lipinski's 28 points. Vicky Briscoe (Landover, Md./Riverdale Baptist) netted 18 points and passed off six assists, while Malissa Burke (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) added 10 points, a career-high eight assists and three steals for the Raiders, and Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) chipped in with 12 points and five blocked shots off the bench. Senior Sarah Parks, who was recognized at the start of the game for senior day in her final game played at Cotterell Court, racked up nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Jennifer Bayer and Laurie Infantino led Lafayette netting 18 points each, while Bayer recorded a double-double grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds and Elizabeth Rojahn chipped in with 12 points.
The Raiders jumped out to an early nine-point lead at 13-4 as Lipinski connected on the first of her eight three-pointers with three minutes off of the clock and led by as much as 13 points in the first half 31-18 before Lafayette worked its way back to within five at 46-41 on a baseline jumper from Infantino with 30 seconds remaining before the break. The Raiders countered quickly, however, as Lipinski knocked in her sixth three-pointer of the half on an off-balanced left-handed bank-shot buzzer beater to give Colgate a 49-41 halftime cushion.
In the second half, Lafayette again cut the lead to five points at 64-59 on a driving jumper from Samaiya Council with a little over 11 minutes to play before the Raiders took their largest lead of the game at 21 points, outscoring the Leopards 18-2 over the next four minutes of action to lead 82-61.
The Raiders 94 points was the most points scored by the team this season and the most points scored in a game since the 1997-98 season while their Patriot League win total of seven games is the most since the 1994-95 season when Colgate finished the Patriot League regular season at 9-5.
