Hamilton, N.Y. - Colgate's Malissa Burke (East Grand Rapids, Mich./E. Grand Rapids) and Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) each earned all-tournament team honors at the 22nd Annual La Salle Invitational Tournament, Sunday, December 30.
Burke and Lipinski combined for 78 points to lead the Raiders' to a third place finish at the tournament. Burke, a sophomore guard for Colgate, netted a game-high 24 points on 9-for-13 shooting, grabbed three rebounds and passed off two assists in the Raiders' opening round loss to La Salle and then added 15 points, including three three-point field goals on 3-for-5 shooting from beyond the arc in the Raiders win over Mt. St. Mary's 85-75. This is the second time this season Burke has been honored with an all-tournament team selection as she was named to the San Juan Shootout Tournament team earlier in the year.
Lipinski, the Raiders' leading scorer as a freshman averaging 16.2 points per game, netted 13 points in the loss to La Salle and hit the nets for a career-high 26 points in five three-pointers in the Raiders win over Mt. St. Mary's. Lipinski, who is averaging 3.4 three-point field goals per game, connected on seven three-point field goals in the two-game tournament to give her 44 on the season which places her at second on three-point field goals in a season and 10th for three-pointers in a career.
Colgate is 6-7 on the season under first-year head coach Beth Spycher and is enjoying its best start since the 1997-98 season. The Raiders will return to action January 2, 2002 when they host Ivy League opponent Columbia University, 7 p.m. at Cotterell Court. |
