Hamilton, N.Y. - American's Jenyce Woodruff grabbed a defensive rebound off of a Victoria Briscoe miss, and sank one of two free throws with one second remaining in the game to give the Eagles a 79-77  Patriot League win over Colgate, Wednesday at Cotterell Court.

Kaitlin Schuyler led American with 16 points as one of four Eagles in double figures. Maria Werries netted 14 points and Chanel Spriggs added 13, while Katryn Costenbader chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for American which improves to 6-7 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot League.

Freshman Allison Lipinski (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) and Senior Sarah Parks (Wilmington, Del./Ursuline Academy) led Colgate with 17 points a piece.  Lipinski, who netted four three-pointers, set a new Colgate single-season record for three-pointers with 50.

Freshmen Milaina Lagzdins (Oakville, Ontario/Nelson) added 14 points while classmate Leandra Fuller (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) chipped in with 10 points to round out the Raiders' scoring.

Trailing 39-34 at the half, Colgate took the lead 50-49 with 13:37 in the second half on two free throws by Fuller.  American's Costenbader answered back with her second three-pointer of the night to regain the Eagles' lead  52-50.

American pushed the lead to as much as 11 with an 8-0 run with just over five minutes remaining in the game, on four points by Spriggs, and two a piece by Hollie Steinman and Werries.

The Raiders would not go away, however, as they outscored American 14-4 over the final five minutes of the half to trail 77-78 with 9.6 seconds remaining in the game.   Parks scored seven of the Raiders' 14 points, connecting on her only three-point basket of the night and nailing four free throws in as many tries to push Colgate to within one.    Parks ended the night with 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

The Raiders had a chance to win the game, following a turnover by American's Chanel Hunt with eight seconds on the clock, but Briscoe's driving lay-up rimmed in and out.  Briscoe ended the night with seven points, six rebounds and five assists in a solid performance at the point.

Colgate will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for a Patriot League game against Lehigh, Saturday, January 12 at 5:30 p.m.
