HAMILTON, N.Y.—Sophomore Colleen McCaffrey scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to complete a double-double in Colgate’s 86-83 overtime win against Long Island University.

Frances Boone added 17 points for Colgate (2-2), including two clutch free-throws in the final seconds of the game.  Junior Sarah Parks broke her career-high in rebounds, ripping down 12 for the Red Raiders.

For Long Island (1-4), Tamika Dudley also posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards.  Kim MacMillan matched her teammate’s game-high 23 points and had five steals in the game for the Blackbirds.

With just over a minute to go in the second overtime, Colgate led 83-80 until Long Island’s MacMillan nailed a free-throw to bring her team within two.  Boone sparked the Red Raiders at the :10 mark as she stole the ball from a Long Island in-bounder and was fouled by Vanessa Harwood.  After Boone’s two successful attempts from the charity stripe, Colgate brought its lead to four.  The Blackbirds refused to give in as MacMillan hit a short jumper making the score 85-83 with only four seconds left in the contest.  The Red Raiders held on as McCaffrey scored her 29th point, a free-throw, with three seconds remaining to put Colgate ahead for good.

Long Island scored four straight points to open the contest and its biggest lead of the game, 34-22, came at the 3:40 mark in the first half.  The Blackbirds led 35-30 at halftime.

Colgate heads to Wagner College on Tuesday, December 5 as part of a three game road trip.  The Red Raiders return to Cotterell court Thursday, December 21 for a match-up with Quinnipiac.
