COLGATE FALLS TO IONA, 66-56, IN FIRST ROAD GAME

NEW ROCHELLE, NY:  Iona senior Karen Culbertson had a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the Gaels defeated Colgate, 66-56.

Megan Cobb led Iona with 20 points as she turned on the heat late in the game, scoring 16 of her total points in the second half.  Colgate freshman Malissa Burke was the top scorer for the Red Raiders.  She tallied a career-high 15 points and pulled down 5 boards.

With 7:47 to go in the game, Burke completed a three-point play to give Colgate its first lead of the second half, 48-46.  The contest remained close with Iona continually recapturing the lead, but Danielle Fields brought the Red Raiders within one point, 57-56 at the 3:29 mark.  The Gaels hit some key free-throws in the final minute to secure a win at home.

Colgate finished the first half triumphant, scoring nine straight points arrested only by Kendra Kirby’s last second jumper for Iona.  The Red Raiders led 33-24 at halftime.

Sarah Parks and Colleen McCaffrey were also in double figures for Colgate with 13 and 12 respectively.
