RED RAIDERS DEFEAT DREXEL IN FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON, 66-55

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate women's basketball team opened its season with a convincing 66-55 win over Drexel University Saturday at Cotterell Court.

Sophomore Colleen McCaffrey tallied 14 points and pulled down five boards for the Red Raiders, while teammate Ali Hanson scored 14 points and dished out five assists.

Drexel junior Michelle Maslowski finished with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, and sophomore Heather Welborn added 14 points for the Dragons.

Colgate led the entire game to win only its second time in seven meetings against the Dragons.  The Red Raiders led by 17 points, 63-46, with four minutes remaining before the Dragons closed to within nine points with 1:04 left in the contest.

Colgate freshman Malissa Burke added 12 points while Frances Boone and Sarah Parks contributed eight apiece.

Colgate shot .509 from the field, hitting 28 of 55 shots while holding Drexel to .364.
