McCAFFREY NAMED SECOND TEAM ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE

Second Straight Season She Has Been Honored By The League Coaches

           HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate University sophomore forward Colleen McCaffrey has been named second team all-Patriot League in women’s basketball in a vote of the league coaches.

            This is the second straight season she has been honored by the Patriot League after earning all-rookie recognition last year.

            The 6-foot, forward from West Springfield, Mass., is Colgate’s leading scorer with 15.1 points per game and first in rebounding with 7.9 caroms per outing.  She enters the 2001 Patriot League Tournament fourth in league scoring and rebounding.

            McCaffrey has posted six double-doubles for the Red Raiders while twice scoring a career-high 29 points in a game.  During the season, she was twice named Patriot League Player of the Week.

            In two seasons, she has scored 666 points (12.3 ppg) and grabbed 387 rebounds (7.2 rpg).

            First team selections were Therese Kelley (Army), Vicki Quimby (Bucknell), Monika Rothemich (Holy Cross), Anne Tierney (Lehigh) and Molly Creamer (Bucknell).  Joining McCaffrey on the second team were Desire Almind (Bucknell), Katie Macfarlane (Army), Jeanette Paukert (Holy Cross), Gina Zang (Lehigh) and Courtney Davidson (Navy).

            The all-rookie team consists of Macfarlane, Almind, Davidson, Colleen Fitzpatrick (Lafayette) and Maile Shimoda (Navy)

            Creamer was named the Player of the Year, while Holy Cross’ Bill Gibbons was Coach of the Year and Almind was Rookie of the Year.
