WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON ON SATURDAY AGAINST DREXEL

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Colgate University women's basketball team will open its season hosting Drexel University this Saturday, Nov. 18, at Cotterell Court. Game time is 1:00 p.m.

This is the sixth meeting between these two teams, and the Drexel Lady Dragons hope to extend their dominance over the Red Raiders to 6-0. In a tight contest last season, Drexel managed to slip past Colgate 61-58 in the final minute.

Colgate returns three starters to the floor in 2000-01, led by senior guard Frances Boone, who was second team all-Patriot League last season. Boone averaged 12.9 points per game and broke the Colgate record for steals in a season with 96. Joining her among the returning starters is junior Sarah Parks and sophomore Ali Hanson. Parks tallied 12.7 points per game while Hanson averaged 8.0 points per outing.

The Red Raiders were 13-16 overall and 6-6 in the Patriot League last year. This year's club was picked to finish third in the Patriot League.

Following Saturday's opener, Colgate will hit the road for games against Iona (Nov. 26) and Cornell (Nov. 29) before returning to Cotterell Court on Dec. 2 against Long Island University.
