ANNAPOLIS, MD –
The Red Raiders picked up their first Patriot League win of the year as sophomore Colleen McCaffrey recorded her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and grabbing ten rebounds, to lift Colgate past Navy, 88-82.

All five starters for Colgate were in double digits and first-year Malissa Burke paced the team with a game-high 19 points, including a 9-10 performance at the free throw line.  Senior Fran Boone contributed 16 points in the win, while Sarah Parks and Ali Hanson added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

For the Midshipmen, Courtney Davidson led the scoring effort with 17 points.  Jennifer Bombinski and Adrienne Roseti chipped in 15 apiece, and Maile Shimoda came off the bench to score 16 points in the game.

Roseti converted on a lay-in at the start of the second half to give Navy a one-point lead.  The Mids increased their lead to three, 41-38, but two buckets by Parks and McCaffrey quickly placed the Red Raiders back on top.  Colgate ran away with a 13-3 tear making the score 55-44 at 15:40, but Navy was determined to stay in the game.

The Mids used consistent free throw shooting and a few short jumpers to draw within one on three different occasions.  At the 4:50 mark, Navy tied the game, 75-75, on a lay-up by Bombinski.  Colgate answered with seven straight points, but Navy refused to abandon ship.  The Mids trailed by only two, 84-82, with just over a minute to go.  Hanson and McCaffrey each sank a pair of free throws to clinch the road win for Colgate.

The lead teetered back and forth in the first half, but with 30 seconds left Parks stepped to the line and put Colgate ahead by one, 35-34, at intermission.

The Colgate offense was keyed by a spectacular performance at the foul line.  The Red Raiders made 32 of 36 free throws to finish at 89 percent.  Colgate also shot well from three-point land, hitting 8 trifectas in the contest.  The Mids managed a better overall shooting percentage, but the Red Raiders outrebounded Navy by a slight margin, 35-31.

With the win, Colgate breaks a three-game losing streak and improves to 1-4 in the Patriot League and 4-14 overall.  Navy now posts a 2-3 record in the conference and falls to 7-12 on the season.
